The historical origin of the flexible chain known as Viking Knit dates back 1300 years.  Samples of this metal woven chain have been found in Scandinavian and British archaeological sites dating back to the 9th and 10th centuries. Most often the samples found are the double or triple weave, being the same stitch, just more tightly woven and using more metal wire. The finished chains found, were used for rope style bracelets and necklaces and trim of garments. Most of the Viking Knit I do is the single weave, which I draw through a drawplate to shrink and smooth the diameter to be the size I feel is most useful for salable products.

Come watch my demo and actually try the stitch yourself at our February opening!
